Very Rare Platybelodon (Primitive Elephant ) Fossil Teeth

Description: In March and July of 2008 I had the unique privilege of purchasing two large lots from a most important collection. The collector had painstakingly accumulated a superb group of decapods, echinoderms and other fossils during a twenty-year period. The vast majority of the specimens came from self-collecting, academic resources, trading, and selected purchases. Very few of fossils came from the normal channels of trade shows and commercial internet resources. Any specimen presented under this introductory paragraph will generally be a superior collector grade fossil; be it of rarity, preservation, or, both.

This molar was obtained many years ago when the import of Chinese fossils was not restricted. In the last few years the Chinese authorities have placed harsh restrictions on the export of fossils; making this specimen quite valuable.

The specimen is in very good condition. It is solid and heavy. The outside top contoured portion of the molar has been cleaned to reveal a smooth mottled finish. The inside portion of the molar has not been curated. The molar appears to have had been broken into about five sections when discovered. These have been glued back together and do not detract from the excellent presence of the piece.
