Modocia laevinucha typicalis TrilobiteDescription: Modocia laevinucha is one of the less common trilobites found in the Wheeler Shale and Marjum Formations. According to the collector this one is from the Marjum Formation. Generally, when commonly found in the Marjum mudstones associated with Bathyuriscus, the Modocias are small molts with the free cheeks missing. This specimen is in a much harder matrix, obviously not from the mudstone quarry. It has retained its tightly attached free cheeks and is quite large. You will note that most of the “skin” is missing, though this detracts little from the pleasing presence of the Modocia. It is an excellent specimen that would enhance the collection of any Utah trilobite specialist.
