Altiocculus harrisiDescription: Altiocculus harrisi is perhaps the most sought after species from the Wheler Shale. The most distinctive feature is the large number of thoratic segments. They are most often found in association with the common Elrathia kingi. This one comes from a mudstone quarry near the world famous U-Dig It Quarry pay site. Percentage wise, Altiocculus harrisi, though found with Elrathias are rarely found. A specimen of this size and preservation is cause for celebration indeed. This one is flawless, matrix free, and huge for the species. It is fully 3D with black skin and a few rust colored overtones on the axis. The cephalon and eyes are fully developed and preserved. Note the pustules covering the complete carapace. This may well be the finest example of this species ever offered. Altiocculus harrisi is named after Bob Harris, the owner of the local rock and fossil shop in Delta, Utah.
