Oryctocephalites TrilobiteDescription: I recently acquired this highly surprising trilobite from the collector who resides in the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania. I was unaware that Oryctocephalidae (one of my favorite families of trilobites) were found in the great state of Pennsylvania. The collector, who has for decades been the world’s primary source of Kinzer Formation fauna, stumbled upon this trilobite find at a construction excavation site he happened to fortuitously stop and examine. I connected him to noted paleontologist, who coincidentally is doing research on the Oryctocephalidae of Pennsylvania. The paleontologist identified this specimen. I am looking forward to the publication of his research.

The trilobite itself is white against the black, rough indurated matrix. It is a highly compressed negative. The preservation is fair, though the outline and spines are quite apparent. Despite the obvious preservation flaws, this would be a fantastic acquisition for the specialist collector. It is the only one I have to offer.
