Selenopeltis vultuosa Museum Lichida Trilobite Description: Here is an example of a member of the genus containing some of the largest trilobites of the Order Lichida, Family Odontopleuridae known as Selenopeltis “vultuosa”. I place the specific name in quotes because it only bears some similarities to that Czech taxon, and has many differences. Note the distinctive size, number, and placement of pleural spines, far different from most members of the genus. For now we will leave it in this genus, but as with so many Moroccan trilobites it still needs scientific description. Only a literal handful of examples are know, with this being the FIRST I have been able to offer. I have included several in preparation photos.
