Metascutellum Moroccan TrilobiteDescription: This trilobite is a member of the Order Corynexochida, Family Styginidae known as Scabriscutellum furciferum. It is distinguished by lack of fringing pygidial spines from Thysanopeltis, and from Scutellum by the ribbing of the pygidium. This example is unusual in that it possesses fine occipital and axial spines, a feature I have seen in none of the other literally DOZENS of examples I have seen before. Whether an aberrant example, a subspecies, or a new species altogether I will hedge and refer to it as Aff Scabriscutellum furciferum for the time being.
