Struveaspis and Aulacopleura TrilobitesDescription: This specoimen comes from a new location known as Jorf in Morocco, close to the site from which the polished goniatite ammonites originate. The preservation of the exoskeleton is reminiscent of them in terms of texture, unlike many trilobites from Morocco. The larger trilobite is Struveaspis bignoni. Struveaspis is a most uncommon taxon found in the Devonian of Morocco and the Czech Republic. The smaller trilobite is Aulacopleura. It is rarely-seen example of a member of the Order Proetida, Family Aulacopleuridae, this one is most similar to Aulacopleura beyrichi. While the genus name is typically applied to Silurian trilobites of Europe, this one has also been placed in the same genus despite the disparity in appearance. This is a most unusual association plaque of two disparate trilobites. Indeed, this is the FIRST example of either species from Jorf I have ever had.
