 Description:
Elegant example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Subfamily Asteropyginae
with many fine details present. Notice the fine eye facets present
on this specimen. The Asteropyginae recently have undergone revision.
This one has been known variously as “Asteropyge” and
as “Kayserops”. This one possesses significant differences
in the pleural and pygidial spines than either of the two members
of the genus (see my other listings). When I asked if it was merely
an issoumorensis variant, I was told it is not, and is considered
mere as Metacanthina sp. by one of the foremost collectors in the
US who told me he has only seen a half dozen examples. |
