New DorypygeDescription: A spectacular example of this rarely-offered spiny trilobite, this one is stunning. Dorypyge is the patronymic genus of the Dorypygidae, a sought-after family of trilobites from the western United States. It is a new, as yet undesribed species with dramatic pygidial spines. While only the pygidium is preserved, it is still a most unusual specimen. It is found with a small (7 mm X 7 mm) enrolled Modocia brevispina. Perhaps one day an intact example will come to light – that would be a dramatic specimen indeed!.
