Neocalmonia TrilobiteDescription: An elegant example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Subfamily Asteropyginae with many fine details present. While the Asteropyginae recently have undergone revision, this one still seems to need some work. The most distinguishing feature of the specimen is that unlike most others in the group it possesses four lateral pygidial spines rather than five. I sought the advice of one of the premier collectors of Moroccan trilobites and learned that there are three genera that have this feature: Destombesina, Minicryphaeus, and Neocalmonia, with only Neocalmonia having long spines such as this. There are several subgenera, but I will be content with labelling it aff Neocalmonia for now.
