 Description:
This is an unknown Odontopleurid trilobite whose closest affinities
are with the genus Laethoprusia found at Black Cat Mountain in
Clarita, Oklahoma. It comes from a new location known as Jorf in
Morocco, close to the site from which the polished goniatite ammonites
originate. The preservation of the exoskeleton is reminiscent of
the m in terms of texture, unlike many trilobites from Morocco.
It has substantial differences from that taxon, however, most striking
being the elongated pygidial spines and the presence of an occipital
spine. It is similar to another that I had seen last year which
even more closely resembled the Oklahoma specimen. I think that
while they may well be the same genus, the differences are too
great to be the same species. Both are diminutive, giving further
credence to the expression good things come in small packages. |
