Fossil Site: Mecissi Region, Morocco

Fossil Code: PFT445

Price: Solf

Description: Description: Eldonia is an extinct soft-bodied animal of unknown affinity. Walcott originally described them from his diggings at the Burgess Shale in Canada. They are also prevalent in the Early Cambrian Chengjiang Maotianshan Shales. These fossils are still under debate as to whether they are related to the jellyfish, or, are other soft-bodied animal. The persisted in the Ordovician, in a period often described as the Great Ordovician Radiation, or Ordovician Explosion.

Eldonia are disc shaped, like a Frisbee, with strands radiating out from the center. On some of the well-preserved specimens, a distinct C-shaped gut track is easily visible. This specimen distinctly shows the dark gut track. It is well defined, 3D, with good color and contrast. This is the only one I have to show.
