Description: An interesting head left, side view specimen. This one portrays excellent preservation of the head, fins and tail fin. It was cracked and repaired. This specimen came from the George Lee collection. He recently died and left one of the largest privately held collections in the world. It was bought a number of years ago when these fish were first imported into this country from China. He was able to purchase much larger specimens than those available in later years. This is another Chinese fossil species that was readily available a few years ago, but is not to be found offered by the Chinese dealers at trade shows today (This is the last one I have to offer). It would make an excellent example of a fossil from the “feathered dinosaur” region of China to add to your fossil fish collection.

This fish is a member of the Acipenseriformes or Sturgeon-like fishes and a member of the recently-erected Peipiaostidae. It is the first of the Acipenseriformes discovered in China, and is closely related to Stichopterus.
