Caturus furcatusDescription: This is a very well preserved specimen. The skull displays well, the skin and scales are present as well as the various fins. A note of explanation regarding the curation of this specimen. The positive was on a very fragile and thin plate. The preparator cut it away from the plate and remounted it in the negative plate, which was thicker and stronger. Hence, it is somewhat elevated above the plate. These deposits were formed in a warm salt-water lagoon. All kinds of plants and animals were incredibly well preserved, including soft-bodied organisms and the world's most famous fossil early bird, Archeopteryx.
