Description: Pseudogygites latimarginatus is an Asaphid trilobite (Order: Asaphida; Family: Asaphidae Subfamily Isotelinae) coming from the Ordovician strata of Ontario, Canada. This trilobite was first known as Pseudogygites Canadensis until it was found that the name Asaphus latimarginata had precedence over Asaphus canadensis. Once the trilobite was assigned to the current species, the generic name became latimarginatus. They are similar in morphology to the genus Ogyginus of the United Kingdom (see my other offerings), differing in the hypostome and facial suturing. A classic Ontario trilobite, this is one of the more common species, but as the quarries become less accessible, these, like any good Ontario trilobites, are becoming less available. This one is black against a black matrix and is in very good condition.
