Description: Well-preserved example of a member of the Order Asaphida, Family Asaphidae, known as Ogygiocarella. First described as a “flatfish” in Egland in 1698, this one was finally recognized as a new type of animal known as a trilobite some 70 years later. The fossil is replaced in granular chalcopyrite which results in this metallic sheen. See my other offerings for another trilobite from the region with similar preservation.
