Rare Witryides rosmerta Carboniferous TrilobiteDescription: This is an example of the rare Caboniferous proetid trilobite Witryides rosmerta. By the Carboniferous the Proetida were the last surviving trilobite order. As a member of the subfamily Diromopyginae this one has the classic lines of the Partonymic genus Dirmopyge. Missing only the very top of the cephalon this is a fine example of the taxon. Note the preserved natural exoskeleton on the left genal spine and most of the glabella. It should be pointed out that the last 3 photos are of the counterpart which simply appears to be a positive by a trick of the eye.
