Olenoides TrilobiteDescription: A superb example of this rarely-offered spiny trilobite, this one is quite spectacular. The Dorypygidae represent a sought-after family of trilobites from the western United States. I have seen only a few offered over the past five years, and this one ranks very high in terms of its detail. It is quite 3-D in aspect, and shows off well centered on its matrix throne. It is easy to see why C.D Walcott named this one superbus. This is a rare taxon, with this longer-spined variety less often seen than its shorter-spined counterpart. The repairs to the matrix do little to detract from its elegance.
