Description: Coming from the Cambrian Marjum Formation deposits of Millard County Utah this is a detailed example of the trilobite Elrathia. While Elrathia kingii is found in the Wheeler Formation by the millions, this one comes from the Marjum and has a drastically different pygidium, making it a surety that it is not the same species, I have only seen three other examples of this type with the distinctively-notched pygidium, one of which can be seen on the American Museum of Natural History website. Interestingly, several of the pleurae seem to have been damaged in life, presumably the result of predation. While some think Anomalocaris to be the culprit, others think some other marauder was the cause. Whatever the case, the predator seems to have had a preference for the right side of trilobites such as Elrathia and Asaphiscus as it is predominantly that side that displays such damage.
