Metacanthina issoumourensis Moroccan TrilobiteDescription: Elegant example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Subfamily Asteropyginae with many fine details present. Notice the fine eye facets present on this specimen. The Asteropyginae recently have undergone revision. This one has been known variously as “Asteropyge” and as “Kayserops” .The rich dark brown exoskeleton is well-contrasted to the beige matrix block. This one has been prepared in what is termed the “flying” pose, a most labor-intensive technique that makes for a dramatic display piece. With the advent of a more consistent electricity supply, preparation in Morocco has taken great leaps forward in the past few years, an effect most certainly seen in this stunning specimen. If a less expensive but still dramatic example is desired, please see my other offerings.
