PiriproetusDescription: This unusual trilobite comes from a new location known as Jorf in Morocco, close to the site from which the polished goniatie ammonites originate. The preservation of the exoskeleton is reminiscent of them in terms of texture, unlike many trilobites from Morocco. This one is a rarely offered member of the genus Tropidocoryphe, and is the FIRST I have secured in 12 years The family derives it names from a feature found in proetids termed the tropidium, a line of pits in the glabella that may have served a sensory function. The genus shares a number of features with the more familiar Cornuproetus (see my other offerings) but differs in the possession of longer genals and a set of axial nodes. With a surge in interest in specimens from Jorf we can only hope to see even more unusual material coming to light.
