 Description:
Fine example of a member of the Order Corynexochida, Family Styginidae
known as Paralejurus hamlagdadicus with many fine details present.
The species name is derived from the formation in which the type
specimen was found. The taxon is distinguished from that termed “Paralejurus
Type B” in having shortened genals and a rounded cephalon.
Preservation is excellent with fine eye facets present. The streamlined
shape of this trilobite is thought to have aided it in burrowing
through the seafloor in search of a meal. With the advent of a
reliable source of electricity in Morocco, the quality of preparation
has improved dramatically over the past few years. This one took
a great deal of effort to prepare all the pleural spines free of
matrix. While I used to refer to trilobites prepared in a mode
similar to this as flying, I feel a new term is warranted by the
preparation now coming into vogue. |
