Silurian Dalmanites limulurus Trilobite from Rochester Shale New YorkDescription: This trilobite is a member of the Order Phacopida, Family Dalmanitidae from the Silurian Clinton Group Rochester Formation deposits near Rochester, New York, known as Dalmanites limulurus. The species name is derived from perceived similarities in appearance to the modern-day horseshoe crab Limulus. It is well-positioned on its shale matrix display base, and is representative of a taxon not frequently offered in such a fine preservational state. There is a repaired crack which detracts but little from this fine example. Note the eye facets. This is one of the few US Silurian trilobites typically on offer, and there seem to be fewer available now than in the past.
