Ampyxina TrilobiteDescription: An example of a member of the Order Asaphida, Family Raphiophoridae, this one is known as Ampyxina. The rostral spine is preserved, a feature shared with Ampyx, Cnemidopyge, and several other trinucleids. Spine preservation is quite rare, making this an unusual specimen of a genus more common in the central part of the United States (Ampyxina bellatula). The Raphiophoridae were true “survivors’, being the only trinucleoids to survive into the Silurian.
