Lachnostoma latucelsumDescription: An example of a member of the Order Asaphida, Family Asaphidae, this one is Lachnostoma latucelsum. The Asaphidae are known for effacement, or loss of detail, to the exoskeleton, a trait readily seen here. The flattened leading edge of the cephalon and trailing edge of the pygidium may have been a means by which the trilobite kept itself at the surface of a silty seafloor.
