Nunnaspis stitti TrilobiteDescription: Here is a rarely seen trilobite from New Mexico that was named in 2000. It is known as Nunnaspis stitti, and comes from the Lower Mississippian Osagean Stage deposits of Sierra County in that state. The generic name derives from the member in which it was first discovered, while the specific name is in honor of the late Dr. James Stitt. Missiissippian trilobites are not all that common; all are members of the Proetida the sole order to survive past the Devonian. This fine specimen is nearly complete, missing just a portion of the exoskeleton and tips of the freestanding genal spines. This is the only example I have been able to offer in 9 years.
