Description: Well-preserved example of a member of the Order Proetida, Family Proetidae, this one is known as Gittara gittariformis. The Proetida are the Order of trilobites that lasted the longest; few trilobites made it past the Ordovician. All were gone by the end of the Permian, the time of the greatest mass extinction of all time. There is a fine ventral negative specimen (notice the preserved hypostome, or anchor for the mouthparts), and a partial dorsal positive preserved, making for a fine morphology study of this “survivor” trilobite.
