Tricrepicephalus coria Trilobite from Weeks Formation

Stunning and Super Rare

Tricrepicephalus coria

Trilobite Order Ptychopariida, Family Tricrepicephalidae

Geological Time: Upper Middle Cambrian

Size: 40 mm long

Fossil Site: Weeks Formation, House Range, Millard County, Utah

Tricrepicephalus coriaDescription: This is an exceptionally rare example of the trilobite Tricrepicephalus coria from the House Range of Utah. Some trilobite workers assign the species as Tricrepicephalus texanus, but there is still some debate on that score. It is sought after by collectors in part due to the resemblance it bears to the genus Ceraurus. The dark exoskeleton contrasts well with the rose-colored matrix, a color seen when the matrix has been weathered (indeed, a view of the matrix from the side shows several pinkish layers). This one has had some restoration to the axial and distal part of the right pleural lobe that detracts but little from such a spectacular specimen.
