Stapeleyella inconstansDescription: Well-preserved examples of a member of the Order Asaphida, Family Trinucleidae, this one is Stapeleyella inconstans. The genal spines and cephalic pits (fenestrae) are evident, the means by which this trilobite filtered detritus from the seafloor. The trilobite presumably hovered at the seafloor, using its legs to kick up particulates which then passed through the cephalic ring. In addition there is a partial cephalic rim with pits evident. I altered the exposure on the largest photo to bring out the details of this fine multiple piece.
