Dudley Trilobite LeonaspisDescription: This is an example of the diminutive trilobite Leoaspis coronata, from the famous Silurian Wenlock Beds of Dudley in the West Midlands. A species of Calymene has been mined here for hundreds of years, with collections dating back into the 17th century. Until recently a “Dudley Bug” was to be found on the coat of arms of the county council. This one is one of the smaller trilobites known, with a maximum length of some 20 mm. While not quite complete, it is a rare example of the type. A good complete specimen would easily fetch double the asking price seen here.
