This is a NATURAL DOUBLE of a member of the Order Lichida from the Devonian Hamar Laghdad Formation Djebel Issoumour deposits near Alnif, Morocco known as Leonaspis. Some think it more correct to refer it to the genus Kettnersapis; whichever you prefer, it's a wonderful example. As an Odontopleurid, it has some fine company in Koneprusia, Dicranurus, and Ceratonurus -- all dramatic in their own right. This unusual specimen has a PAIR of this unusual "stovepipe" variety that are 1.3 and 1.5 inches in length, and 1.8 and 2.0 inches wide at the outswept genals. What makes this one atypical is the high "stovepipe" cephalic spine; most examples merely have a small bump at this spot. Additionally, the eyestalks are more robust than the typical Leonsapis elliptica. This is a unique opportunity to obtain a fine example of this rarely-offered taxon as a pair (NOT COMPOSITED) on the large 4.5 inch by 3.0 inch scultpted matrix whose only repair appears to be to the cephalic spines. It is the ONLY such double I have seen.
