The Green River Formation deposits of Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah are best known for their immaculately-preserved fish, but other examples are known as well, as this specimen attests. This plaque displays a nice example of a fruiting body known as a catkin in association with a Mimosa leaf. Catkins are dense cylindrical clusters of apetalous flowers common to willows, birches and oaks.
