| Name: Carcharodontosaurus saharicus (dinosaur tooth) Age: Upper Cretaceous Size (25.4mm=1 inch): 30 mm along outer curve or 17 mm across inner diagonal Location: Tegana Formation, near Taouz Morocco Code: CT03 Price: $35.00 - Sold This
is a tooth of what science now believes was the largest carnivorous animal
to have walked the earth, Carcharodontosaurus saharicus (Order: Saurischia;
Suborder: Theropoda; Superfamily: Carnosauria; Family: Allosauridae). The
name means "sharked tooth lizard", and remains have been found
across much of North Africa. Sporting a rugged frame, six-foot long head,
and teeth up to eight inches long, the beast was more massive than T-Rex,
but with a brain case ½ that of T-Rex, probably was not as clever.
This tooth has been cleaned, but is without any filler or restoration, and no hardener has been applied to the surface. Note that most enamel is intact and serrations are in good condition. In all, a very good dinosaur tooth. |
