Among the fossils from the Green River Formation Lagerstätten, the large and magnificent palms are arguably the most stunning. Apparently, the great depth of the lakes, and the consequent anoxic conditions, would have enabled these amazing plant preservations. Palms, of course, shed there fronds as they grow, or are ripped loose by wind storms. These palms are unequivocal evidence of climate change and that Eocene time in Wyoming resembled the subtropical climate of modern-day Florida.

The frame of this palm frond fossil measures 49.5 by 83.5 inches. The frond itself measures 5 feet tall, and 3 feet across, and is 100% complete.

Palm frond fossils from the Green River formation rank among favorite decorator items, albeit they are a bit pricey -- but, nature ain't making any more of them.

The second picture shows the robust framing and backing that assures the plate's integrity unless the wall collapses. Essentially, it is ready to hang.
