Minicryphaeus minimus TrilobiteFossil Description: Elegant example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Family Acastidae with many fine details present. Notice the fine eye facets present on this specimen. The Asteropyginae recently have undergone revision. This one has been known previously as “Cryphina”, then as Pseudo cryphaeus. In 2013 it was assigned to yet another genus: Minicryphaeus. . It has a distinctive rostrum present, as shown in the photos. The rich dark brown exoskeleton is well-contrasted to the beige matrix. To see another trilobite whose rostrum would put Pinocchio to shame see my listing for Morocconites. Also look under Destombesina for a Minicryphaeus lookalike.
