One-of-a-Kind Eofallotaspis Trilobite from Nevada

Eofallotaspis sp

Trilobite Order Redlichiida, Family Fallotaspidoidea

Geological Time: Lower Cambrian

Size: 25 mm

Fossil Site: Waucobean Series, Montezuman Stage of the Fallotaspis Biozone of the Campito Formation. Esmeralda County, Nevada

EofallotaspisDescription: This is a very special offering of the second oldest trilobite species ever discovered in the ancient continent of Laurentia. It is in effect the oldest complete trilobite genus ever discovered in the USA. The oldest is Repinaella; with never a complete one yet discovered. Eofallotaspis has been recently discovered and described by Hollingsworth. His scientific paper was published in 2005. A mere handful of these have been collected, and the very small outcrop appears to be exhausted. The trilobite itself was professionally prepared with air abrasion. Unfortunately the specimen is not complete. The cephalon is in good condition. While most of the left thorax and spines are in place, the pygidium is missing.
