Green River Downy Fossil FeathersThe Green River Formation deposits of Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah are best known for their immaculately-preserved fish, but other examples are known as well, as this specimen attests. This is an example of a pair of downy feathers from an unknown bird. Downy feathers are the ones that are found closest to the skin; their hairlike structure provides excellent insulation.
