Pseudobaselicus planusDescription: Coming from the Middle Ordovician Upper Asery Level deposits near Saint Petersburg, Russia, this is an infrequently-offered trilobite known as Pseudobasilicus (formerly Basilicus) planus, betrayed as such by the genal and pleural spines. This trilobite is rarely offered, and would make a key acquisition to any collection. The caramel-colored Calcite shell is quite evidently in a good state of preservation, with the trilobite dominating the limestone matrix. Its broad, low profile, the source of the generic name planus, probably allowed it to escape detection by both predator and prey alike as it sat on the sea floor.
