Hoplolichas furcifer Exotic Russian trilobite

Coming from the Middle Ordovician Asery Level deposits of the Wolchow River region near Saint Petersburg, Russia, this is an example of a trilobite of the Order Lichida known as Hoplolichas furcifer. The trilobite itself is 2.1 inches long (measured in straight projection) and 1.6 inches wide at the widest extent of the freestanding genal spines. Both the owner of the world's foremost paleontological preparation laboratory in Russia and I think this one looks like a rabbit (what's up, Doc?). Most examples of the taxon have the occipital spine curved backwards over the axial lobe ram's horn style. This is only the second I have seen in 3 years with this UNUSUAL upright display. Its caramel-colored Calcite shell is well set off by the white limestone matrix. As always, the skillful Russian preparators have shown this fine specimen to best advantage, well-positioned on its 5.8 inch by 5.2 inch matrix.
