Cephalopod Fossil Description: Here’s something you don’t see every day coming from the prep facilities of Bob Carroll, an orthocone cephalopod. The orthocones derive their name from their essentially straight shell; some from the Ordovician and Silurian reached lengths of 3 meters. This one has a larger partial example preserved in the lower left of the matrix. This was the only example Bob had on offer in Tucson this year, and is the only one I have seen offered by him in 7 years.
