Description: This is a marbleized example of stromatolitic material from the Upper Cambrian of Utah. Marble is the result of either regional or contact metamorphism of limestone or dolostone, and typically results in the loss of any fossils or sedimentary textures of the original rock. The Notch Peak Formation wasn amed by Walcott nearly 100 years ago, and spans the Cambrian/Ordovician boundary, with the Hellnmaria Canyon Member the oldest of the three named members. The unique black and white coloration is quite striking, making this a most eye-catching specimen from a county far more famous for its wonderful trilobites.
