Description: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so they say. To me this specimen resembles Brazilian rosewood in its various reddish-brown hues. The formation from which it comes in Western Australia dates to the Paleoproterozoic. This stromatolite exhibits fine banding detail, although the inter-band layers are similarly colored. The beautiful specimen has been polished to a mirror finish orthogonally to the growth lines. While this piece would make a fine present for any natural history buff, anyone who appreciates art would also be glad to get thus wonderful specimen as a gift.
