Description: The Yixian formation of China contains a panoply of exquisitely- preserved insects, vertebrates, and plants. This is the first example of a seed from a plant known as Beipiaoa I have had. The derivation of both the generic and specific names is self-explanatory. There is some debate as to what type of Angiosperm this one belongs to, but several aquatic Angiosperms have spiny fruits such as this, leading some researchers to believe this was an aquatic plant. This is a fine example of the type, suitable for any collection of fossil plants.
