Description: This is a fine example of a Silurian fenestrate bryozoan known as Fenestrellina elegans. Also termed (moss animals”, the Bryozoans are colonial animals who make a living as filter feeders. The window-like structures (fenestrae) were also seen in Graptolites as a result of convergent evolution to serve as filters (see my other offerings for examples)..
