Crusher Fish and Shrimp FossilsDescription: This plate displays a rarely seen example of Coccodus insignis in association with a fine shrimp of the genus Carpopenaeus. Coccodus had broad rounded teeth resembling cobblestones. They were presumably employed in crushing the shells of mollusks and small crustaceans it found while sifting through the bottom muck. The genus went extinct by the Upper Cretaceous, leaving no descendants.
