Cephalopoda indet

Geological Time: Upper Silurian (~410 m.y.a.)

Size (25.4 mm = 1 inch): 155 mm long by 20 mm wide at the living chamber
Matrix: 200 mm by 105 mm

Fossil Site: Bertie Waterlime, Western New Hampshire

Description: While Eurypterids (“Sea Scorpions”) are well known from the Bertie Waterlime, other taxa such as this orthocone cephalopod are not. This one shows the ridges related to the addition of chambers as the orthocone grew as darkened curved line. This is the only example I have been able to offer in nearly 14 years.
