 Description:
Coming from the Cretaceous Turopnian Stage (~93 million year
old) deposits between Zagora and Dakhla, Morocco. Notice the
knobs (nodes) on the shell, the source of the species name for
this ammonite. Some ammonites are thought to have developed knobs
or spines as secondary sexual characteristics rather than for
defense. It correct, it would be easy to tell the boys from the
girls in the ancient seas! As all ammonites, these went extinct
at the end of the Cretaceous. |
