Green River Formation Fossil BeetleDescription: The Green River Formation deposits of Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah are best known for their immaculately-preserved fish, but other examples are known as well, as this specimen attests. This fine piece displays a beetle. Beetles are one of the most diverse life forms on the planet. One in every four described species on earth is a beetle, and some four of every ten insect species is a beetle. The naturalist J.B.S. Haldane is attributed with the statement that the Creator had an inordinate fondness for beetles since he created so many of them.
