Rare Solnhofen Lacewing Insect Fossil Nymphites braueriDescription: This is a fine example of a lacewing from the lithographic limestone deposits of Eichstatt, Germany, known as Nymphites braueri. These 150 million year old deposits are famous for their exceptionally well-preserved organisms, the most famous of which are the handful of specimens of the ancient bird Archaeopteryx. That exceptional preservation is displayed here as well. In addition to the Jurassic deposits of Solnhofen, the Nymphidae are known from the Cretaceous of Brazil, Transbaikalia, and Siberia. Few examples are offered, with this one a typical example of this rare taxon.
