Struveaspis Phacopida TrilobitesDescription: This fossil comes from a new location known as Jorf in Morocco, close to the site from which the polished goniatite ammonites originate. The preservation of the exoskeleton is reminiscent of them in terms of texture, unlike many trilobites from Morocco. This is a natural double of a trilobite known as Struveaspis. Struveaspis is a most uncommon taxon found in the Devonian of Morocco and the Czech Republic. Most have a smooth cranidium and few facets in tiny eyes. The fact that these display some rugosity to the cephalon seems to indicate that they may well be a new species. Many of the trilobite from Jorf appear to be new to science, and these are no exception.
